Clio
Renault offers a full
range of small and medium sized cars including its most popular models,
New Clio and Mégane, that already conform to the UK government’s company
car and benefit in kind tax measures set for 2008/9, with low running
costs and purchase price.
Renault offer six New
Clio’s, 11 Modus mini-MPV’s, two previous generation Clio Campus and
nine medium sized Mégane’s that all use the Renault dCi 68, 86 and 106
engines to great effect emitting 120g/km or less, and therefore fitting
in the VED (road tax) Band B along with hybrid cars - the cost of which
was also reduced by £35 in the last budget.
For such a visionary
range of products you’d expect such advanced technology to be expensive
but fleet customers can buy a New Clio Expression 1.5 dCi 86 three door
which has a CO2 emissions figure of just 117 g/km for just
£11,040. Falling into the Band B VED category with a low insurance
rating of 2E and a combined fuel consumption of 64.2mpg, Renault’s are
not only kind to the environment, they are also good for your bank
balance too.

Renault Clio DCI106: This is a big car
that needs the big diesel output to haul it about, but the engine
combines effortless performance and easily achievable economy in the
high 50s.
Comfort wise, the upside of the car's huge mass is a feeling of solidity
and refinement, with very little noise entering the cabin and a
well-insulated ride.
A few instances of cheap flimsy plastics in the cabin (door bins & glove
box lid) mar the overall impression of quality.
You sit very high up in this tall car, so the view ahead is decent, but
at high speed you can almost feel the mass of air it's pushing through,
so economy may be severely reduced. Petrol-engined Clios must suffer
very badly in this respect, lacking the turbodiesel grunt. Renault need
to improve the aerodynamics of their cars before they can really claim
the mantle of Green Car Manufacturer - the vogue for tallness is a curse
against economy.
