Megane
Renault offers a full
range of small and medium sized cars including its most popular models,
New Clio and Mégane, that already conform to the UK government’s company
car and benefit in kind tax measures set for 2008/9, with low running
costs and purchase price.
Renault offer six New
Clio’s, 11 Modus mini-MPV’s, two previous generation Clio Campus and
nine medium sized Mégane’s that all use the Renault dCi 68, 86 and 106
engines to great effect emitting 120g/km or less, and therefore fitting
in the VED (road tax) Band B along with hybrid cars - the cost of which
was also reduced by £35 in the last budget.
For such a visionary
range of products you’d expect such advanced technology to be expensive
but fleet customers can buy a New Clio Expression 1.5 dCi 86 three door
which has a CO2 emissions figure of just 117 g/km for just
£11,040. Falling into the Band B VED category with a low insurance
rating of 2E and a combined fuel consumption of 64.2mpg, Renault’s are
not only kind to the environment, they are also good for your bank
balance too.
Mégane is the only non-hybrid medium sized 120 g/km
car
The biggest-selling
company cars are the medium and large ones which may be either job cars
that pound the motorways taking people to appointments or perk cars
which come with a higher grade job. This therefore, is the vital area of
the market where a car as environmentally friendly as the Government’s
new target will be crucial if the incentive is to work.
Here, Renault’s Mégane
dCi 86 and 106 six-speed also fit into the band B category with CO2
emissions of just 120 g/km making it the exception to rule as no
other non-hybrid medium sized car such fit into this VED band.
So what does this mean in money saved to
the driver of a Mégane? Currently the best-selling mid-range Mégane
Hatch dCi106 Dynamique costing £14,662 would cost a 40% tax payer
£1055.66 a year when taxed at 18% of the retail price. In 2008 this will
be reduced to 13% of the retail price (£1906.06) meaning a 40% tax payer
will pay only £762.42 to the Inland Revenue – a saving of £293.23.

Renault Megane 106 dCi: This car is two
years old next month and has only done 12000 miles- not yet run in
really, but giving 51.6mph around town and 57.4 on longer runs. £35 VED.
Very comfortable, quiet, packed full of gizmos (the keyless entry/exit
is a real boon). The only fault has been a very irritating brake
squeal (apparently common to Meganes) fixed without quibble under
warranty. Altogether a super car.

Megane dci 106 Sport Hatch: Cracking,
distinctive comfortable cruiser. Bought new November 2006. Been to the
Lot valley and back when "Ruby" was but a wee girl in April '07.
Supposedly 120gm CO2 therefore £35 road tax and no congestion charge,
52.6 mpg round town. Forget all the hybrid nonsense - the
alternatives (like Ruby) are already here, with space, grace and 5-star
Euro NCAP rating. Our lovely metallic black Megane with hands-
free keyless entry/exit, panoramic sun roof and all electrics is just
one.
Don't wreck the planet with new technology - not just yet, eh?

Renault Megane DCi 80 5 door - Just
completed 60,000 miles at an average of 55 mpg. Just renewed tax cost
£35 and insurance for 3 named drivers £180. The Megane is refined and
comfortable and apart from a new electric window winder (£450) and
routine wear and tear and maintenance, it has been cheap to run. Car is
4 years old and still clocks up 500 miles per week. Thoroughly
recommended!

Bought the Dynamique DCi106 version with
loads of extras in October 2006. Have covered about 11,000 miles. Have
averaged 45mpg over this time, disapointing is the word, as Renault
claim 50mpg Urban..and about 60mpg average.......... But excellent
torque makes up for the economy, it goes like a train, (my MX5 1.8 is
slower at overtaking) The car feels solidly built in every way, a huge
improvement in quality over previous models. However,it suffers from
occasional brake squeal which sometimes embarrasses me as people tell me
to get the brakes repaired, Renault refuse to repair them, they say the
noise is a characteristic of the car and is not a fault. I got in the
car one morning in February to find the passenger door pocket half full
with water, emptied it and it filled up again the next night, but after
that it has not done so again. Other people have had the same problem,
(as per the bloggs)Last week I had a puncture in a rear tyre that
couldn't be repaired, the dealer relieved me of almost £118 for a new
17" Continental tyre. I won't be going back there for the next one. I
give the car 8 out of 10, and if I change it any time soon, it may be
for a RenaultSport DCi175, or mayne not as it will probably be much
worse on fuel then Renaults Urban claim of 34.4mpg
