The BBC reports Sales of 4x4 vehicles have fallen sharply across the UK. Studies show that 4x4 sales fell 5.5% between January and October of this year.
4x4 vehicles have faced heavy opposition from environmental groups and have suffered because of the higher costs of fuel. Declining sales of 4x4s have also come in the face of increased taxes such as the new £215 top rate of road tax for vehicles with the highest emissions.
Yet the study's authors, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said most of the fall was due to two best-selling 4x4 models being replaced and sales would recover when the replacement Land Rover Discovery and Honda CR-V models came on to the market.
