Tesla and Think
sign development agreement worth $ 43 million. The American company,
building the worlds fastest electric sports car, will supply
batteries for the new TH!NK city. This is an important
agreement for Think. The collaboration gives us the opportunity to
co-operate with one of the most innovative car companies in the US,
says CEO in Think, Jan-Olaf Willums.
The Sports Car
Tesla Roadster is
the hottest plug-in sports car on the market. The sports car
accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds, and has a capacity of
more than 200 miles per charge. Top speed is over 130 mph. The car
is powered by advanced lithium batteries.
Think wants to be
able to offer the newest within technology, and whatever the
customers needs. With this collaboration with Tesla, they have
reached their goal. Tesla develops excellent batteries. A Tesla
Roadster battery pack includes up to 7000 single batteries. TH!NK
city will need around 3000 single batteries to obtain a sporty
acceleration and a distance range of more than 112 miles.
People have
different needs and different requests. That is why we choose to
collaborate with Tesla, in addition to our current supplier of Zebra
batteries. Our customers will now get the choice of whatever battery
that suit their driving pattern, says Willums. According to the
agreement, Tesla will deliver 2700 battery packs starting in
December this year and continuing through 2008.
The Environmental
Car
TH!NK city is a
completely new car, and production starts this fall. New battery
technology enables TH!NK to double its capacity. The new design has
been praised both in Norway and abroad. We are now working on
the final preparation for manufacturing the first type approved cars
by the end of this year.
As a part of the
agreement, Tesla will develop prototypes for a range of battery
models. We will be in the lead of the thriving battery technology,
and our goal is always to achieve higher capacity and more power. –
We will get the first test batteries already this fall, and I am
anxious to test drive the first “TH!NK powered by Tesla”, says
Willums.
