Volvo bioethanol C30 'Green Racer' (13 October 2008)

Volvo C30 Green Racer

Volvo’s pioneering bioethanol-powered C30 ‘Green Racer’ will be putting in a guest appearance at this year’s MPH Show.

Fresh from its debut year in the 2008 Swedish Touring Car Championship, the E85-fuelled C30 FIA Super 2000 model will be displayed on the Volvo stand at the London and Birmingham events alongside the sleek C70 coupe convertible and the stunning new Volvo XC60 crossover. Visitors to the gallery will also be able to take a closer look at the seven-seat Volvo XC90 SUV and S40 Saloon complete with the new sports-inspired R-DESIGN specification.

The new Volvo XC60 crossover is available with a choice of petrol or two diesel engines and will be launched in UK dealer showrooms this November. The newcomer will also be the first to feature Volvo’s innovative City Safety technology, which automatically applies the brakes to help the driver avoid or reduce low speed impacts common in city traffic.

Karen Donovan, Events Executive at Volvo Car UK Ltd, said: “The MPH Show is all about power, performance and prestige but we wanted to add a hint of ‘green’ to the mix, so our renewable fuel running C30 racer is sure to fit right in.

“More importantly, it is also a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our environmental credentials and cutting-edge technology – both on and off the race track.”

Powered by a five-cylinder 2.0-litre engine, The Volvo C30 is the only ethanol E85 powered car competing in the series and develops more than 280 PS in race-tune and is driven by Tommy Rustad and Robert Dahlgren for the Volvo Olsbergs Green Racing team.

In addition to its appearances in the Swedish series, where it took two race wins and finished 3rd overall in the manufacturer’s championship, it also appeared at the Brands Hatch round of the World Touring Car Championship earlier this year.
