Modec, the UK-based manufacturer of the
world’s first zero emission light commercial vehicles, will be making
its continental Europe debut at the European Road Transport Show. The
company’s presence in Amsterdam also marks the announcement of its first
dealer in mainland Europe – Modec Netherlands BV.
During the show, Modec will be
displaying one vehicle in box van configuration, which will be providing
ride and drive demonstrations at the entrance to the show. Modec
representatives will be on hand to answer questions and talk about the
benefits of these vehicles.
Ahead of its dealer appointment, Modec
has been conducting trials with high profile companies in Amsterdam
since January 2006. These trials include working with the CityCargo
initiative, due for launch in October 2008. Pilot schemes like this are
set to make a huge impact on the air quality of the city and as such,
have been widely supported by the local community.
Modec began production at its
purpose-built factory in March 2007. Demand has since been extremely
high and sales continue to increase rapidly. Modec vehicles have already
become a common sight on UK roads, with customers including Tesco and
Amey and Accord MP, working on behalf of Transport for London (TFL).
Michael Mica, Managing Director, Modec
Netherlands BV, said: “The trials in Amsterdam have proved the benefits
of these vehicles, demonstrating the concept is perfect for the market.
For a city like Amsterdam, the ability to use zero emissions vehicles,
and the effect this has on air quality, is incredibly important. We now
look forward to introducing the vehicles to potential customers in the
Netherlands and Northern Europe from our base in Mijdrecht.”
