Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is
introducing a new, range-topping 140 PS diesel engine for the Caddy van.
The new TDI PD engine is a 2.0-litre
unit offering the flexibility of 320 Nm (236 lbs ft) of torque from
1,750 rpm and lively performance of 0 to 62 mph in 10.6 seconds, while
still returning excellent fuel economy of up to 50.4 mpg on the extra
urban cycle (44.1 on the combined cycle). This is thanks in part to the
van’s standard six-speed manual gearbox featuring shorter ratios in the
lower gears to improve acceleration, while the higher gears are
lengthened to maximise economy.
It still offers the Caddy’s maximum
payload of 724 kg and load volume of 3.2 m³ and becomes the third and
most powerful diesel engine available in the Caddy range alongside the
2.0-litre SDI PD 69 PS and 1.9-litre TDI PD 104 PS.
The new Caddy 140 PS is available to
order now, with an on-the-road price of £13,636.28 excluding VAT, or
£15,983.25 including VAT, with first deliveries to customers expected in
time for the new ’08-registrations in March.
