Visitors to EcoVelocity, the
low-carbon motor show being held
at Battersea Power Station,
London from 8-11 September, will
be encouraged by Volkswagen to
‘Think Blue’, as they get up
close and personal with some of
the company’s latest BlueMotion
products, both on the stand and
on the track.
The Touareg Hybrid and Scirocco
BlueMotion Technology will be
among vehicles available to test
on EcoVelocity’s near mile-long
circuit.
Along with its advanced and
efficient 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS
engine, the Scirocco BlueMotion
Technology uses a Stop/Start
system to save fuel when the
vehicle is stationary, along
with battery regeneration, which
recovers energy which would
otherwise be lost to recharge
the battery.
The Touareg Hybrid combines a
3.0-litre V6 TSI engine and 34.3
kW electric motor and can travel
on electric drive alone at
speeds of up to 31mph.
Those without a driving licence
will still be able to engage
with BlueMotion Technologies on
the Volkswagen stand, which
features an interactive
touchscreen experience and the
‘rollercoaster,’ which takes
visitors on a journey of
discovery into the innovations
which reduce fuel consumption
and emissions.
Also on the Volkswagen stand
will be the Golf BlueMotion –
which returns 74.3 mpg on the
combined cycle and emits just 99
g/km of carbon dioxide, making
it exempt from VED and the
London Congestion Charge – as
well as the frugal Polo
1.2-litre TSI 105PS.
Giles Brown, EcoVelocity
Director, said, “We’re delighted
to have Volkswagen at
EcoVelocity as it is one of the
game-changing brands that really
started the movement towards
no-compromise ultra-low carbon
motoring. Its BlueMotion range
set the industry benchmark and
we look forward to getting a
further insight into their
ground-breaking technology at
EcoVelocity in September.”
