VW Golf VI TwinDrive plug-in hybrid

(29/11/2008)

VW Golf VI TwinDrive

Volkswagen has presented the second generation of its Twin Drive plug-in hybrid car expected to launch in 2010 in the form of the Mk6 Golf. The first generation Twin Drive was based on the Mk5 Golf.

The electric motor, powered by lithium-ion batteries will allow the car to travel up to 31 miles without releasing any emission in electric mode, before switching to either a petrol or diesel engine.  Fuel economy is expected around 94mpg.

Volkswagen is developing the Twin Drive system with eight German partners and is planning a trial fleet of 20 Golfs with the hybrid system in 2010
to test the real world capabilities and viability of the next-generation system.
