This is what a safe,
environment-friendly and highly practical single-track vehicle for
city traffic could look like in the future. The C1-E concept
vehicle, developed by BMW, will enjoy its first UK showing at the
National BikeSafe Motorcycle Show 2010, sponsored by the industry’s
Get On campaign, at Sheffield Arena on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13
June.
The BMW C1-E’s concept is
high-level active and passive safety ensured by a roll-over bar
spanning the rider combined with energy-absorbing features at the
nose-end and a rider harness. The safety features taken from the
former BMW C1 have been enhanced. Regarded as a milestone in safety
on two wheels, it is the only motorised single-track vehicle to be
exempt from mandatory helmet wearing in almost all European
countries.
The difference between the former
C1 and the new C1-E concept is its electric motor. Designed for city
use, the motor gets its power from a lithium-ion battery, “providing
enough power to master inner-city traffic with ease,” say BMW.
However, BMW added, “alternatively the vehicle can also be equipped
with a low-emissions internal combustion engine.”
The National BikeSafe Motorcycle
Show 2010 offers something for all bikers. With over 100 exhibitors
and trade stands, stunt riders, free assessed ride-outs plus lots of
family attractions there is something for every motorcycle and
scooter enthusiast! What’s more the show is completely free with
free entry and free parking.
BikeSafe organisers said, “The
public can get one of the first glimpses of the BMW at the National
BikeSafe Motorcycle Show. There will be plenty of activities for the
whole family as well as the option to go on the ever-popular rides
with the BikeSafe police team.”
