Even more efficient Euro 5 Citroen Nemo

20 January 2011

Euro 5 Citroen Nemo

Even better fuel economy; lower emissions; a more powerful diesel engine; higher payloads; greater loadspace; and improved specifications - these are just some of the significant benefits of the newly introduced Euro 5 Citroën Nemo range.  On sale now, the new Euro 5 Nemo also delivers specific advantages with its advanced Stop & Start technology, including noise, emissions and notable economy gains.

Robert Handyside, Citroën’s Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager, said; “The new Euro 5 Nemo uses advanced technology very effectively to provide significant operational, financial, environmental and safety benefits.  It now carries more, while using less fuel and also has significantly lower CO2 emissions.  This is a van designed to suit today’s tough economic climate.”

New Euro 5 Nemo - 1.3HDi engine efficiency

At the heart of the new Nemo range is a more powerful, higher-torque, more fuel-efficient and lower-emissions 1.3HDi diesel engine.  All new Nemo diesel vans also benefit from Stop & Start technology, further improving fuel efficiency and cutting CO2 emissions in urban driving.

Compared to the Nemo’s previous Euro 4 1.4HDi engine, the new Euro 5 1.3HDi unit boosts power from 70 to 75hp, with a major increase in peak torque to 190Nm @ 1,500rpm (previously 160Nm @ 1,750rpm).

Independent testing showed that the Euro 4 Nemo 1.4HDi was the UK’s most economical van and now the new Euro 5 1.3HDi model offers even better fuel economy.  Its 55.4mpg Urban cycle fuel consumption is a full 10.5% better; the excellent 74.3mpg Extra Urban cycle consumption is maintained; whilst its 65.7mpg Combined cycle consumption represents a 4.4% improvement.

These fuel efficiency gains are estimated, at current diesel pump prices, to provide a £230 fuel cost saving, per vehicle, over three years and 20,000 miles, compared to the previous Euro 4 1.4HDi Nemo.

Also, with very low CO2 emissions of just 113g/km (down from the Euro 4’s 119g/km), the Euro 5 1.3HDi powered Nemo is now even greener.  The Euro 5 1.3HDi engine is also fitted with an efficient, self-regenerating Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS) to bring further environmental gains.

New Euro 5 Nemo - Stop & Start technology

All Euro 5 1.3HDi powered Nemo vans benefit from one of the most sophisticated, emissions-reducing and fuel-saving Stop & Start technologies available.  In a Stop & Start Nemo van, as the driver brakes to a halt, the engine stops and remains in standby mode all the time there is pressure on the footbrake.  As soon as the driver releases the footbrake the engine restarts automatically within a fraction of a second.  The benefits of Stop & Start include better fuel consumption in heavy traffic and there is virtually no noise or vibration when the engine stops and restarts.

New Euro 5 Nemo - 1.4i petrol engine efficiency

The new Nemo also gains a more economical and cleaner Euro 5 1.4i petrol engine.  This engine has, in Euro 5 format, unchanged power and torque figures, although at 35.3mpg, shows a 9% improvement in Urban cycle fuel economy; an 8.4% Extra Urban cycle fuel economy gain at 52.3mpg; and a 7.3% better Combined cycle fuel economy figure of 44.1mpg, together with a CO2 emissions reduction from 164g/km to 148g/km.  The Euro 5 1.4i powered Nemo van is primarily available for Ready to Run Dual Fuel (petrol/LPG) conversion.

New Euro 5 Nemo - carries more

All new Nemo Euro 5 vans have additional load volume with the 1.3HDi powered models delivering a 50kg payload increase.  To reflect their new 660kg payload rating, the diesel-powered vans in the Nemo range now carry the 660 designation. The 1.4i petrol engined Nemo retains the 610 designation, as its payload is unchanged.

The new Nemo’s increased load volume has been achieved thanks tothe Extenso® folding passenger seat now being fitted as standard.  This new standard feature increases the available load volume by 0.3cu.m to 2.8cu.m and lengthens the load deck length alongside the driver by 968mm to 2491mm.  The Extenso® passenger seat back folds horizontally onto the seat cushion and the whole seat lowers so that the seat back is level with the load compartment floor.

To complement the additional loadspace provided by theExtenso® folding passenger seat, there is a new folding bulkhead - available from Citroën dealers as a competitively priced £189 + VAT + fitting accessory.  When a driver and passenger are travelling in the Nemo, the new full-height mesh bulkhead prevents the load moving forward into the cab.

Then, when the Extenso® seat is folded flat to increase the load area, the passenger side half of the new bulkhead hinges so that it can be positioned alongside the driver’s left side to provide complete protection from the load.

New Euro 5 Nemo - designed to benefit businesses

The major financial, environmental and productivity changes introduced with the new Euro 5 Nemo range complement an award-winning specification.  As Citroën’s smallest van, the Nemo is designed to appeal to urban businesses.  Reinforcing its urban credentials, the Nemo is just 3.86m long and has a turning-circle of just 9.95m.  Yet, the Nemo has a large internal load volume of 2.8cu.m and payloads of up to 660kg - matching the load carrying and load volume capacity of some of its larger high-cube competitors.

The new Euro 5 Nemo van range is available with a choice of three well equipped trim levels.
